Model SB-1000
General Capabilities
The Ross & White Company "Giant Brush" Bus Washer shall wash the roofs and sides of buses from 90" to 102" wide. The sides shall be
brush scrubbed and roofs shall be washed by a stationary hanging mop. The washer shall be automatically operated and controlled by
overhead dangle switches contacting the bus. The vehicle actuated bus washer shall be designed to use giant brushes on fixed shafts to wash
the sides and roofs of buses without the retraction of fixed side view mirrors. Unobstructed allowable vehicle clearance through equipment
limited to 12'-4".
- A. Prewet Detergent Spray Arch - The prewet detergent spray shall be constructed of 1-1/4" diameter schedule 40 galvanized pipe
with 150 pound galvanized fittings. It shall be mounted to (2) 1" diameter floor anchored "A" braces, by means of (8) 1/2" diameter
plated cinch anchors. A total of (36) brass spray nozzles shall be employed to totally saturate the bus and brushes with detergent
solution. (8) Brass spray nozzles shall be supplied to wet the brushes with 12 gallons per minute of detergent solution. (20) Brass
spray nozzles shall be supplied providing 16 gallons per minute of detergent solution. The nozzles shall have an angle spray of 65
degrees. (8) Brass spray nozzles shall be supplied having a flow rate of 16 gallons per minute with a spray angle of 65 degrees; the
total of all mentioned prewet detergent spray nozzles shall supply 44 gallons per minute of detergent solution. The nozzles shall be
secured to the prewet detergent arch by means of tapped holes in the arch. NOTE: All flow rates based on 40 PSIG of water
pressure.
- B. SB-1000 Side Brush Machine with Roof Mop - The brush machine side structure shall be fabricated from TS 5"x3"x.250
structural tubing. The top bridge structure shall be fabricated from C5x6.7 structural channel. The top bridge structure shall be
securely bolted to the side structure which shall be anchored by (6) 1-1/4" diameter by 12" long plated cinch anchors.
Brushes - The brushes shall be of the segmented type in disposable cores. The brush material shall be made from heavy
circuleen filaments extruded in the form of an "X" for maximum water retention and scrubability. Segmented split brush cores
shall be held to shafts by means of bolting collars which shall permit quick replacement at points of wear. The brushes shall
have a 60" diameter with a 10'-6" height. Optional 72" diameter available.
Shafts and Bearings - To provide a maximum of flex and shock absorption, brush shafts shall be fabricated from 2-1/4"
outside diameter by 1-3/4" inside diameter round structural tubing with machined stub-shafts inserted and welded at each
end.
Bearings shall be heavy duty 1-3/4" self-aligning, lubricated, single row, ball bearings. Brush shafts shall be
provided with an 18" anti-wrap disc and 12" diameter bearing guard at the base of the brush to keep brush
fibers from entwining brush shafts.
Brush Drives - Each brush shall be driven by a 5 horsepower, totally enclosed fan cooled, NEMA design "B" electric
motor; bolted to a right angle gearhead reducer producing a 96 RPM brush speed. The reducer and brush shaft are coupled
by a bushed flex disc coupling to insure long motor life and positive brush alignment.
- C. Rinse Arch - The rinse arch shall be constructed of 1-1/2" diameter schedule 40 galvanized pipe with 150 pound galvanized
fittings. It shall be mounted to (2) 1" diameter floor anchored "A" braces with (8) 1/2" diameter plated cinch anchors. A total of (24)
brass spray nozzles shall be employed to strip the bus of all excess detergent water. The (24) brass spray nozzles shall be supplied
with a flow rate of 72 gallons per minute. The spray angle of the nozzles shall be 35 degrees and the nozzles shall be secured to the
rinse arch by means of 3/8" tapped holes. NOTE: All flow rates based on 40 PSIG of water pressure. Operation of the rinse arch
shall be controlled electrically be means of a 2" water solenoid valve.
- D. Vehicle Actuated Controls - Controls for automatic operation shall consist of vehicle actuated dangle switches suspended from
pipe supports overhead. The switches shall be gasketed and equipped with a cannon plug and receptacle. Each switch shall be
supplied with a vinyl covered fiberglass contact rod.
- E. Prewired Control Panel - The control panel shall be housed in a NEMA #12 gasketed oil tight enclosure. The control panel shall
be supplied with motor starters, relays, fuse blocks and numbered terminal strips. Jefferson transformers shall provide power
reduction to a 110 volt control circuit. A through the door mainline disconnect manufactured by Westinghouse shall be located for
shutdown of electrical functions. The control panel wiring shall be color coded and numbered for easy identification, and the control
panel shall be completely prewired for field installation.
- F. Detergent Siphon System - Liquid detergent shall be siphoned from a 3/4" siphon line teed from a 1-1/4" ball valve regulated,
solenoid valve operated, water line. The siphon unit shall be operated on the Venturi injection principle, and shall be adjusted using
insertable flow nozzles. A pressure gauge shall be supplied to monitor the proper flow rate of liquid detergent. The siphon system shall
be 1-1/4" and 3/4" galvanized schedule 40 pipe with 150 pound galvanized fittings. The siphon system shall be pre-assembled and
bracketed for field installation.
- G. Tire Guides - Tire guides shall be fabricated from 4" diameter black pipe with welded, smooth ground, front flares to insure proper
alignment into washer. The tire guides shall be anchored every 3'-3" with 3/4" diameter plated cinch anchor bolts to insure a secure tie
down to the concrete floor.
- H. Finish - All fabricated sections of the brush machine and tire guides shall be hot-dipped galvanized per ASTM A123 or A385.
Drawings - Drawings for anchor bolts, assembly, wiring and piping shall be supplied. Operating and Maintenance Manuals, and repair parts
drawings shall be supplied to facilitate maintenance of machine. (3-Complete sets are included in the washer price. Additional sets are
available at nominal cost).
