Since 1932, the Ross & White Company has serviced the transportation industry, and numbers among its successes, the pioneering development of bus washing systems beginning in 1936 with the design and supply of its first washer which was sold to the original predecessor company of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA), then known as the Capital Transit Company. This particular machine, which was designed to wash trolley cars, was installed at the "M" Street S.E. Car Barn and continued in service washing both trolley cars and busses until it was replaced in 1987.

In the intervening years between its founding and the present, the Ross & White Company has been responsible for many innovations such as the introduction of wrap-around type washers with the capability to wash the fronts and rears of busses. Ross & White pioneered the first water recycling systems in the industry. The very successful development and marketing of the "Buck Cyclone Cleaner" concept for the daily cleaning of the interior of buses was a Ross & White first.
